The course record of 65 was shot by Adam Scott during the first Regional Qualifier for The Open to be held at Renfrew Golf Club. This was in July 2000, the first of six years as a venue for qualifying, before The Open at St. Andrews.

Scott achieved the 7 under par course record just weeks after turning professional. This was the start of a good week for the 19 year old Australian. He subsequently made a top 10 finish at the European Tour event at Loch Lomond. This was followed by winning his section of the final qualifying with a 68 at Leven Links.

Scott has since went on to establish himself as one of the best golfers in the world. Present in the top 10 of the World Rankings since 2003, he has secured 10 wins worldwide including four on the USPGA tour and five on the European Tour.
